Flower color meaning

I thought this could be a nice post since Valentine’s day is coming up!!

Red: Of course, red is the color of love!! The deeper the red is, the more the love! Give it to show deep love and devotion.

Pink: Innocent happiness. This is a close second to red. Give it to show love without the romantic attachment.

Orange: Pride, energy and confidence! Vibrant colors that show fun. Give it to a friend or to mothers on mothers’ day!

Peach: Friendship and gratitude. Give this to a friend or to say thank you!

Yellow: Cheer, happiness, brightness. Give to anyone on a summer day!

I’ve always found that interesting what we do with objects…. I don’t like those rules I mean if you prefer yellow roses and your girlfriend (or boyfriend who says we can’t offer guys flowers??) does too than why should you stick to conventions and offer her/him red ones?

The only rule that I like to follow is that you should offer an odd number of roses. (so when we say dozen, it’s not 12, it’s either 11 or 13)

Have a happy v-day!!

Christmas Dinner Idea

This Christmas I will spend the actual day with my family but since I am leaving for France on the 22nd (my boyfriend leaves on the 23rd… go figure), we decided that we will prepare a little meal for the two of us on the 21st.

Since I enjoy cooking a lot I already made the menu and decided that I will take care of the food. Here is the menu I have planned out:

Entrée:

Fondant of bananas and goat cheese

Ingredients: (for 2)

-2 bananas

-2 slices of goat cheese

-1 small onion

-cooked ham (75g)

-herbs (I will use basil)

-sour cream

-salt and pepper

1)Slice the bananas and cut the onion as small as possible

2)Dispose on two plates

3)Add the diced cooked ham, the goat cheese, the herb and the sour cream

3)Add salt and pepper and put in the oven at 180 C ( for 20 to 30 minutes

I will serve it with salad

Main course:

Orange Turkey

Ingredients: (for 2)

-2 turkey breasts

-2 oranges

-ginger and saffron

-salt, pepper, sugar

-1 tablespoon of soy sauce

-1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar

-2 tablespoons of olive oil

1)Slice the turkey breasts

2)Prepare the marinade: take the juice of the two oranges, the spices, salt, pepper, sugar, soy sauce and balsamic vinegar

3)Put the turkey in the marinade and in the fridge for 1 hour

4)Heat the turkey in a pan with the olive oil for 5 to 7 minutes and take them out

5)Put the sauce in the pan and let it reduce to half and put the turkey back in

I’m still hesitating between serving it with balsamic rice or with green beans….

Dessert:

Compotée of apples, oranges and cinnamon

Ingredients: (for 2)

-2 apples

-1 orange

-cinnamon (powder)

-raisins (optional)

-vanilla sugar (optional)

1)Peal the apples and dice them

2)Put them in a saucepan

3)Zest the oranges and put them with the apples, add the juice as well

4)Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples and oranges. Optional: add the vanilla sugar and the raisins

5)Leave in the saucepan mixing from time to time. It is ready when the apples are easy to mash. Leave some apple cubes whole

Date Idea

A friend of mine gave me a great idea once I never got the time to try out. If you are looking for a great first date idea (or regular date) and live in a city you should go with your date in the subway, or bus of your town and get off at a spot both of you have never been.

-It will show you are adventurous and daring to try out new things

-It will show that you are creativity and fun

-Both of you will be on equal grounds since you both are in a unknown area

-It could give you an idea for a second date (a second subway station/ bus stop)

-It will make you discover an area you don’t know

-It will make you exercise

-You will have an opportunity to see all the similarities between your past experiences in your town (ohhh you went there! to that café? me too!!)

-It will give you a great memory if you guys decide to continue

-You will make a lasting impression (less cliché than diner and a movie right?)

PowerPoint for your loved one

You know what I like to do when I am sad or feeling low? Do something creative for someone I love. Last time I made a PowerPoint for my boyfriend with all the reasons why I loved him on each slide and he loved it. If you like the idea here is how you can make your boyfriends or girlfriend’s day too:

-Make a list of all the reasons why you love him/her or why he/she is special to you (I found 15 good ones) – he makes you laugh, she knows you so well, he is always there for you, her smell, the way he talks…..

-Gather enough pictures of you two for each reason in step 1, and ideally match them up with the reason – He makes you laugh- a photo where you are both laughing, she know you so well, a photo that you know she likes a lot to show her you do too, he is always there for you- a photo that was taken after a fight or during a difficult period etc….

-Pick a theme or make your own and personalize each slide with a little text with anecdotes or explanation and your photo!

You can either print it or send it to your special someone via email or Skype.

I was away from my boyfriend when I did this for him, I hadn’t seen him in two months and it was very hard. I was lucky enough to be able to speak to him everyday on Skype and he was very happy to see what I had made for him while he was in class!

This is a good idea for long distance relationships but not only. If you feel that you have not been as connected as you used to be or if you are in a rough place in your relationship this could be a nice way to show him/her you still care deeply about them!
